Mason Oberkramer returns to Lucas Oil MLRA Victory Lane at Tri-City
Mason Oberkramer was one of 47 Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association (MLRA) entries on hand at Tri-City Speedway (Granite City, Ill.) on Friday evening to take part in the weekend finale with the series. After topping his group in time trials, Oberkramer cruised to a heat race victory, which positioned him on the pole for the opening night feature. Regaining the lead from Tim Manville on the seventh lap after Oberkramer led the first three circuits, Mason held off the field for the remaining distance of the 30-lapper to secure his third win of the season and second career MLRA victory. Taking the checkers ahead of Chris Simpson, Tim Manville, Shannon Babb, and Bobby Pierce, Mason Oberkramer pocketed a $5,000 payday. (Rich LaBrier photo | Dirtman Photography)
On Saturday afternoon for the $7,000 top prize, Mason came one spot short of a transfer position in his heat with a fifth place finish, sending him into the B-Main. Picking up a 12-lap consolation victory, Oberkramer earned the 17th-starting position for the finale. Running into trouble near the midway point of the 40-lap affair, Mason was an early retiree on lap 25.
Sunday night's MLRA finale at Randolph County Raceway (Moberly, Mo.) fell victim to Mother Nature.
